I went to Japan to record voice acting for a game.
Usually, we mainly recorded in Korean, but this time, the developer requested that we record voice actors in Japanese.
I was wondering whether I should hire a Japanese voice actor to record it in Korea or do it myself in Japan.
In the end, we decided that recording in Japan would be a better option.
Should we record in Korea? Should we record in Japan?
At first, I was wondering whether to hire a Japanese voice actor and record it in Korea.
However, for several reasons, we decided that it would be more efficient to proceed in Japan.
The first reason was the limited choice of voice actors.
There are voice actors who can speak Japanese in Korea, but if you do it yourself in Japan,
You can hire voice actors with a much wider variety of styles and voices.
The second was the cost aspect.
When recruiting Japanese voice actors in Korea, considering individual voice actor fees, studio rental costs, etc.
The cost difference compared to doing it in Japan was not that big.
Lastly, there was the issue of local sensibility.
In Japanese recording, not only linguistic accuracy but also local sensibility and production style are important.
This part could be solved naturally by working in a Japanese studio.
So, I contacted the Japanese studio I met at the Tokyo Game Show last year.
After receiving and comparing quotes, we decided to proceed with the recording ourselves in Japan.

I left for Japan with the voice actor team leader, and after arriving in Tokyo, I went straight to the studio.
The studio was equipped with the latest equipment, and the facilities were very clean and well-run.
While recording in a Japanese studio, we discovered a few interesting things.
The first was that the directing method was very detailed.
Each line was given very meticulous feedback, and the process of adjusting the acting tone and emotions was elaborate.
Second, the voice actors were highly immersed in their acting.
The ability to act according to each character is excellent,
I was impressed by how quickly they responded to the director's requests and made changes.
Third was the overall atmosphere.
The studio staff and voice actors were all kind and considerate.
There was a strong feeling of collaboration while working.

Recorded in Japan, edited in Korea! optimal combination

For this project, recording was conducted in Japan, and post-production work (editing, mixing, etc.) was conducted in Korea.
Thanks to this method, while maximizing the natural acting and pronunciation of Japanese voice actors,
We were able to improve the level of completion through precise editing in Korea.
The recorded audio goes through detailed cut editing, noise removal, and balance adjustment.
It is finally ready to be applied to the game.
Through this project, I also experienced Japanese recording methods,
It was a meaningful time as I was able to learn a new way of working.
I learned a lot through this Japanese recording project,
I was able to gain experience to create better game sounds in the future.
We plan to continue working on various recording and sound design projects.
If you need game sound production or voice actor recording, please contact us at any time.
thank you
